Ob Lab Results
This subsection appears in the Ob Episode tab of the patient chart. It displays any OB result created during the time frame of the OB episode (that is, from the LMP date to the episode closed date). Each lab result in the list has a link to the actual lab result. All results appear as long as the result is created after the LMP, or after the OB episode is opened, or within 280 days of the EDD.
- From the patient encounter, locate the Ob Lab Results section.
- Under the Result Type column, click the link to view the lab result document.
Note: The mapping from the result to the OB episode form Result Type is based on the data entered on the Ob Lab Results Mapping page. - Internal Note — Enter a note intended for yourself (does not appear on printed lab results).
- Note to Patient — Enter a note intended for the patient. You must save it before
it can appear on any printed results.
You can save the text that you enter in the Note to Patient field as a macro that you can reuse in other Note to Patient fields. Enter your note text in the field, then click the star icon to save the text as a text macro for later use (fill in the fields that appear).

Note: If a mapping is added or updated (via the Ob Lab Results section in the encounter form), athenaOne assumes the lab was reviewed and displays the result value on the OB episode form. If a document was mapped and then deleted or marked as a duplicate, athenaOne automatically removes the order type and result data from the OB episode form.
You can toggle between two views: the Show all labs link allows you to see which requirements have been met and which are still outstanding; the Show only labs with results link shows only the labs that have been ordered and/or resulted.
- Result Types appear as links that take you to result documents.
- You can hover over a result type name to display the original order type name.
- The Print/Fax OB Episode Form link display labs in the full grid layout.
- When the OB episode form is printed or faxed, the headings appear in bold with slightly indented result types.
To ensure that lab results are reviewed by the provider before they appear on the patient's OB episode form, athenaOne requires at least one of the following actions for each lab result document:
- Patient Notified — Normal
- Patient Notified — Abnormal
- Failed notification attempt (with any of the menu options)
- Close
A Note to Patient field lets you add a note intended for the patient to each lab result. These patient notes are visible when the result is printed. You must save the note before it can appear on any printed results.
You can save the text that you enter in the Note to Patient field as a macro that you can reuse in other Note to Patient fields. Enter your note text in the field, then click the star icon to save the text as a text macro for later use (fill in the fields that appear).
To call attention to corrected lab results, you can make them appear highlighted in yellow (like abnormal results). To activate the highlighting option, please contact the CSC from athenaOne > Support > Success Community > Contact Client Support Center.
